My project work on effect of simplifed kundalini yoga on Hyper tension
ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND
Numerous scientific investigations have undoubtedly proved that psychosomatic diseases are increasing day by day in developing country like India especially hypertension and heart diseases. The prevalence of hypertension in the late nineties and early twentieth century varied among different studies in India, ranging from 2-15% in Urban India and 2-8% in Rural India.
It has been now universally accepted that meditation have effective role in lowering the stress. Hyper tension is one of the life style diseases. So meditation techniques are ideal for improving one’s ability to withstand stressful stimuli. Simple Kundalini yoga Practices is one of the effective tool for prevention as well as management of stress in hypertensive patients.
Though numerous scientific investigations have been done on effect of yoga on hypertension, only few investigations have been done on effect of Simplified Kundalini Yoga practices on hypertension. That’s the present study was done to find the effect of SKY practices on hypertension.
AIM AND OBJECTIVES
AIM :
Aim of the study was to measure the effect of Simplified Kundalini Yoga on Hypertension.
OBJECTIVES:
To measure the Systolic and Diastolic blood pressure
To measure the pulse rate
To measure the respiratory rate
To compare the pre test data to post data
METHODS
Participants
12 subjects including both male and female between the age group of 35 to 75 yrs were recruited in and around Tumkur
Design
Pre-post design with single group.
Assessments
Base line data were collected by measuring pulse, heart rate, respiratory rate, Systolic Blood Pressure and Diastolic Blood Pressure.
Intervention
Subjects asked to do simplified physical exercise for 45 min, Thuriya meditation for 30 min, Shanthi Meditation for 30 min (only on fridays) and relaxation for 15 min as guided by SKY master for 3 months, 6 days in a week.
Data analysis
Data analysis was performed by SPSS (version 17) for windows. Alpha value was set as 0.05. Descriptive statistics was performed to find out minimum maximum, mean, standard deviation for the variables. Paired t test was used to find out significant difference within group for Variables. Microsoft excel, word was used to generate graph and tables.

Interpretation
Table 1 shows that pre-test mean of pulse 64.00 and Std Deviation 4.69.Mean and Std Deviation of RR were 18.00 and 0.00.Before Meditation Mean of SBP and DBP 145.00 and 90.60 respectively. Before Meditation Std deviation of SBP and DBP were 9.72 and 3.53 respectively. After Meditation Mean of the SBP and DBP were 144.00 and 86.80 respectively. After Meditation Std Deviation of SBP and DBP 9.66 and 4.54 respectively. The post test Mean of the pulse 72.30 and Std Deviation was 2.87.Mean and Std Deviation of RR were 18.10 and 0.74 respectively. Before mediation Mean value of SBP and DBP were 126.50 and 82.40 respectively. Std Deviation of SBP and DBP before meditation were 4.12 and 2.63 respectively. Mean value of SBP and DBP after meditation were 126.00 and 80.00 respectively. The obtained Std Deviation value of SBP and DBP after meditation were 4.59 and 1.33 respectively.
RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS
The researcher had formulated the following hypothesis as earlier. It was hypothesised that there would be a significant reduction in SBP and DBP, pulse, RR, after the SKY practices. The result also revealed that there was a significant reduction in SBP and DBP, pulse except RR.

CONCLUSION
Within the limitation of the present study the conclusion were drawn. Hypertension has been reduced significantly when we compare the post test data with pre test data. On the basis of the results found the researcher came to the conclusion that SKY practices has significant effect on hypertension and reduces the drug dosage without any side effects.
